Author Name : Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking
Publisher Name : I bought this book before reading any reviews because I liked the sound of the recipe titles in it. However, after receiving it I heard so much bad stuff about the book that I flung it onto my cook book shelf and forgot about it - destined to remain there for all eternity. Then a couple of weeks ago I was looking for new meal ideas and I decided to take a flick through this book, and I'm SO glad I did! I decided to try out the Cromer Crab Tart. The "cheat" bits are a ready-made pastry case and a ready-dressed Cromer crab. As I live in Norfolk these are readily available in all the shops around here. All the other ingredients were fresh. I'm usually put off making pies or tarts because of the hassle of making pastry so this sounded good to me. The preparation stage was SO fast! It was literally in the oven within 5 minutes. And 35 minutes later me & my family were eating the most delicious crab tart with salad. It was truely scrummy! After that success I decided to make the Goulash today. Heinz Tomato Frito was the only "cheat" ingredient in it. I couldn't get that so used a carton of creamed tomatoes instead, which worked well. What can I say - another absolutely BRILLIANT meal! Again the preparation stage was extremely fast (less than 10 minutes). The dish had to slow cook for 3 hours in the oven but that was fine because I could put it in the oven and then get on with my busy life. It was wonderful to be greeted by the smokey paprika smell when I arrived home later in the day. I will definitely be trying many of of the recipes in this book. It is totally ideal for busy mums like me who want good food in a flash. Food snobs WILL criticise, but I don't claim to be a top chef. I just want to be able to feed my family well, but fast, and I believe that this book enables me to do exactly that.
